I definately agree that education must not be limited to mere theoretic calculation and understanding; if young adults are not familiar with , and simply do not know how to interact with the real world, then not a fully functional human has been shaped, but a limited subform.
Especially modern life with all of its new technologies makes unhealthy(?) , fullscale separation from reality easier.
I can work at home, entertain myself with some machines and have everything I ever need delivered here; I could spend my whole life in my little nest. This probably is not a bad option for some.
But is it not fatal when children are raised without any relation to and knowledge of reality being only familiar with the comforts of a protected, and modern life?
When an animal born in captivity is released it rarely survives for long, so will a child born in captivity share that same fate? Will they at all have the option of living in freedom?
The article presents a school which teaches children knowledge, abilities and experiences.
As it is society's critical task to teach all these aspects of modern life, is it not a bad sign if full-scale schools are showing up?
Maybe Wells' vision of the marsians gives us an idea of what to expect.. *dramatic drumming*
